"Let’s go for a smoke break” or “let’s meet up for a couple of drinks” are two sentences you hear often, whether outside your college or at work. Trust us when we tell you that your body certainly doesn't thank you for it. And as far as your beauty regime goes, these two vices destroy it faster than almost anything else. We certainly recommend that you kick the habit and we also tell you how you can reverse the damage.

Smoking and drinking are injurious to your beauty and your health. Did you ever notice while looking in the mirror how your physical appearance gets altered? From rosy lips you move to dark lips eventually after the smoking effects start kicking in. The nicotine in cigarettes reduces iron absorption and cause the skin of the lips to lose its natural color.

Use a DIY remedy of rose petals and butter to help regain your natural colour. Smash rose petals and add in some butter, mix it well and apply gently to your lips. A quick massage will help to remove the dullness and dark tone of your lips. It is advisable to do this thrice a week.

Smoking and drinking in excess causes hair loss. Alcohol affects the levels of estrogen and zinc in the body, which consequently affect hair growth. Smoking causes hair loss in two ways – by polluting the bloody and restricting the circulation of nutrients in the body. Also, when chemicals like nicotine and carbon monoxide are inhaled, it is very harmful to the hair.

Onions are a great home remedy to counter this. We agree that the smell is awful but it prevents hair loss. Onions are high in sulphur content, which is capable of stimulating hair growth and increases blood circulation. You can apply a paste of fine chopped onions, keep it on for five minutes and rinse with mild shampoo. Repeat this process at least twice or thrice a week to see results.

Treat your teeth

The mouth is badly affected by prolonged smoking. Alcohol can also erode the enamel on the outside of your teeth, leading to decay. Yellow teeth, gum disease, persistent bad breath and stains are some of the problems you’ll have to face. If this isn’t enough, did you know that smokers and drinkers are twice as likely to lose teeth as non-smokers?

To get rid of stains on teeth, use a lemon and salt mix and scrub gently with this to whiten your teeth.

When you consume more alcohol, it depletes essential nutrients and dehydrates the skin, making it look dull and tired. The side-effects of alcohol dilates the facial blood vessels, and cause spidery thread veins.

What you need to do is to drink lots of water after consuming any alcohol. This is one of the best ways to get the glow back. In addition, drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage to hydrate the body before any diuretic effect takes hold.
