The monsoons are finally here and it’s been raining cats and dogs and wild elephants and… you get the point! But sadly, the heavy showers can hardly be listed as a valid excuse to skip college or work. So, in the case where you’re brave enough to wander out, here’s what you need to tick off your list…

monsoon tips for working girls refuel 430x550

Refuel…
If you’re driving, unless you’ve got a full tank, stop and refuel. You never know where and for how long you’re going to be held up. And we know all too well that people would rather stare at someone stuck in a car without fuel and chatter among themselves than help. Plus, to be completely honest, it’s equally ridiculous to expect someone to go out of their way and lend you fuel or bring it to you from the nearest fuel station.

monsoon tips for working girls recharge your phone 430x550

Recharge…
Just like your fuel tank, keep your phone fully charged. If the rain gets worse, chances are that everyone (we mean parents and siblings) will get into panic mode and try to get in touch with you. Plus, you’ll need to check the traffic on your GPS for alternate routes, updates about the road conditions on Twitter and most importantly, you’ll need to call someone if you’re in an emergency! We suggest investing in one of those portable charging units you can take with you everywhere.

monsoon tips for working girls share contacts 430x550

Contacts…
Leave the phone numbers of your colleagues and roommates with your parents, especially if you’re living away from home. If they can’t get in touch with you, they’ll at least know who to call to enquire about your whereabouts. If there’s a friend whose house you generally crash at, share that number as well. Parents in distress aren’t a pretty sight.

monsoon tips for working girls extra clothes shoes 430x550

Stock up…
If you drive, let your car double up as a suitcase in the monsoon. Carry with you an extra change of clothes, a towel, flip flops and an extra set of shoes. Sometimes, reserving a set of shoes just for you to drive in can be helpful eespecially if the soles of your shoes don’t have grooves and tend to get slippery. We’d suggest throwing in a protein bar and a bottle of water as well, there’s no telling when that nasty jam will clear.

monsoon tips for working girls tools 430x550

Tools…
The one thing most people forget to put in their cars is a hammer. No, we’re not asking you to use it as self-defence; it’s a simple precaution in case you get stranded in water and your car lock system fails. We know cases like these are one in a million, but we also know that they’ve happened before.

monsoon tips for working girls beauty must haves 430x550

Beauty must-haves…
Of course we couldn’t leave you without a few beauty must-haves for the monsoon. Shelve your liquid foundation and mascara for a compact, pencil liner or some kajal and blush to add colour to your cheeks and your favourite lip colour in a brighter tone. We understand that the monsoons can be trying times, but that doesn’t give you the right to look unpresentable.

monsoon tips for working girls be nice 430x550

Mind your manners…
Everyone’s a little on edge in the monsoons, so be the good samaritan and help out if required. Don’t honk unnecessarily, be a little patient, offer someone a lift if they can’t find public transport (and look trustworthy), and take it easy. You’ll need all this kind of help and more if you get into trouble, so be nice.
