To maintain the health of our skin and make it appear clear and glowing, we end up trying out almost every skincare product or DIY that we come across. But more often than not, we forget an extremely vital aspect for great skin – diet.
Here’s the thing, girls — no matter how expensive your skincare products are or how diligent you are with your beauty routine, they will never really get the results you crave for if you do not eat the right kind of food. Eating fried, overcooked, nutrition lacking food will end up showing on your skin in the form of acne or dull complexion.
But this Skincare Awareness Month, things are about to change. It’s time you take matters into your own hands and improve the look and feel of your skin by including wholesome and skin-loving foods in your diet. To give you a headstart, we’ve listed down five foods that deliver your skin with all the nutrients it needs to look fresh, clear and glowing.
1. Water

It is important to stay thoroughly hydrated for your body to function well. Water helps flush out toxins from the body, which is mandatory to keep your skin cells functioning properly. Drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily will increase bold flow to the skin and give it a radiant glow.
2. Fatty fish

If you are a non-vegetarian, then you should include fish in your diet. Fatty fish like salmon, tuna or mackerel are a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are important to keep your skin soft, supple and moisturised. Additionally, fatty fish also reduces gut inflammation, which helps in reducing cell damage and the appearance of dryness and dullness.
3. Olives

Olives are a great source of oleic acid, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It gives your skin a smoother appearance and makes it look plump. Additionally, being chock full of vitamin E, olives deliver antioxidants to protect your skin against the harmful effects of environmental aggressors. These factors come together to reduce dullness and improve skin radiance.
4. Watermelon

Who does not love this yummy, refreshing tropical fruit? But apart from its mouth-watering taste, watermelon is brimming with skin-loving vitamins and nutrients that fight a dull and tired complexion. Apart from improving your skin’s hydration levels, watermelon consists of lycopene, vitamin C and A, all of which are excellent antioxidants and help fight free radicals. Another great benefit of including watermelon in your diet is that the vitamin helps to increase collagen production and skin elasticity for plump and youthful.
5. Oats

Oatmeal is a breakfast staple for a lot of us, but lucky for you, it also comes with a lot of amazing skincare benefits. This is because oats contain selenium, which is important to protect your skin cells against UV damage and other related issues such as inflammation, dark spots and aging. Oats is also an extremely rich source of fibre, which improves the functioning of your gut and digestive system, both of which are imperative to keep your skin radiant.
