Yoga is touted to be one of the most useful forms of physical activity that helps relax the mind and body. It offers relief from a number of ailments and illnesses and aids in weight loss. But did you know, yoga asanas can also improve the health of your skin? Yes, it’s true.

This International Yoga Day, we bring you five yoga asanas that will regulate your gut, increase blood circulation to the face area and give you glowing and flawless skin naturally.

 

01. Bhujangasana (Cobra pose)

Bhujangasana or the cobra pose helps stretch the muscles in the upper part of the body while reducing the stiffness in the back and shoulders. This enhances the flow of blood to the head, which elevates your mood as well as promotes healthy skin. It also allows the chest to open up, thereby easing the flow of oxygen.

How to: To perform this asana, lie down on your stomach, place your palms below your shoulder and lift your upper body upwards. Repeat 8 to 10 times.

 

02. Balasana (Child’s pose)

The child’s pose, also known as Balasana is deemed to be quite beneficial for your skin and health. This forward bending pose not only relieves stress and weariness, but also increases blood circulation promoting healthy skin and hair.

How to: Sit on your heels, placing your hips on the heels; bend forward and touch your temple to the ground, while stretching your hands forward. Repeat 5-6 times.

 

03. Ustrasana (Camel pose)

Ustrasana or the camel pose removes toxins from the body by promoting the flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body. This asana is recommended for relieving menstrual cramps as well as shedding belly fat.

How to: To perform this asana, kneel down and keep your back straight. Slowly start bending backwards so as to hold the ankles of your feet. Stretch your chest and abdomen forward and stay in the position for a while. Repeat 3-4 times.

 

04. Matsyasana (Fish pose)

The fish pose also known matsyasana is a chest opening pose, which may look complicated but can be easily performed by a beginner. It improves the functions of the thyroid and pituitary glands to promote healthy skin. It gives a good stretch to the facial muscles, making it one of the best exercises to get rid of a double chin.

How to: Sit with your legs stretched out and slowly bend backwards until your head touches the ground. Lift your chest upwards and remain in the position for a few seconds. Repeat 4-5 times.

 

05. Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)

Uttansana might be a little difficult for beginners, so take it slowly. The forward bending pose flushes the face with fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients which is essential to fight wrinkle causing free radical damage.

How to: Start by standing straight and keeping your hands by your side. Bend forward while trying to touch your feet or ground with your hands. Make sure your back and legs are straight. Repeat 4-5 times.
