An Easy Guide To Applying Makeup On Sunburnt Skin

Most people believe that one can only get tanned and sunburnt in the summers, but this is not always true. Getting sunburnt is an all-year phenomenon and you can very easily get a sunburn in winter too. The loss of moisture in the air coupled with the colder temperature lowers your skin defence and makes it quite prone to getting burnt due to unprotected exposure.

But if your first solution for concealing a sunburn is using a lot of foundation, beware of cakey makeup! Also, you need to be very careful about not damaging your skin further, as sunburns can be quite painful. To make things easier, here are some really useful tips and tricks to use makeup to cover sunburn, while also healing and protecting your skin.

Always prep your skin with a soothing product

It is really important to protect your skin from further irritation, so make sure you’re using the right skincare products.

Start by using a non-foaming cleanser to cleanse and follow it up with a gentle non-alcoholic toner. Then, apply a thin even of layer of natural and pure aloe vera gel to help soothe the burn. Go ahead with a nourishing and calming moisturiser and don’t forget to finish off this routine with a generous amount of a good broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Scrub off flaky skin

If your skin looks calmer and does not really hurt, you can use a really gentle, non-abrasive exfoliator to help smoothen out the skin for better makeup application. Remember to be extremely gentle while doing this and expend really light pressure.

Cancel redness using a green colour corrector

Since green cancels out the red, use a little bit of a green colour corrector before your usual concealer to neutralise surface redness. Sunburns usually cover a large part of your face, hence look for cream-based formulas that are really easy to blend do not tug or pull at your skin.

Mix your foundation with oil

Sunburnt skin can tend to look dry and flaky, and this could make the foundation go on patchy and cakey. To avoid this problem, you can add a drop of your favourite facial oil into your foundation to help it go on more easily. The oil will help to moisturise dry and flaky skin and also ensure that it spreads more evenly.

When you use a brush to apply makeup, you always end up loosening some of the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. While this does not really cause any problems usually, it becomes an issue on the dry and flaky texture of sunburnt skin. Therefore, it is advisable to use a damp makeup sponge to apply your foundation and be sure to use the dabbing and bouncing motions.
