What is a hair detox?
Basically, hair detox is nothing but deep cleansing your hair to get rid of the dirt, oil and product build-up. Even if you wash your hair regularly, some amount of residual chemicals (usually, silicones), oil and dirt still end up settling on your scalp, and your regular shampoo is generally unable to get rid of these deep-set impurities altogether. Over time, this leads to a build-up on your scalp that leaves your hair looking extremely dull. It also leads to other problems such as hair fall and an overactive oily scalp.
But detoxing your hair using special shampoos and conditioners, which are specially formulated to provide a deep cleanse, helps rejuvenate and revive your hair and scalp for better overall health.
How to indulge in a hair detox
Now that you know the importance of hair detox, it is time to look at how you can detox your strands at home. The process is really simple and can be completed in five simple steps. Follow these steps at least once every two to three weeks if you indulge in regular styling and once every month if you don’t.
Step #01: Wet your hair
The first step in this hair detox process is to start with wetting your hair thoroughly. The temperature of the water you’re using is critical here. It is essential to use only cold or lukewarm water for this process as hot water can end up stripping your hair of moisture, leaving it really dry and frizzy.
Step #02: Scalp scrub
After your hair is thoroughly wet, take a dime-sized amount of your favourite scalp scrub and gently yet thoroughly massage it all over your scalp. This is a great way to loosen all the dead skin, dirt, grime, oil and product residue. Leave this scalp scrub on for about five minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
Step #03: Shampoo
Next, it is time to deep cleanse using a detoxifying shampoo like the Tresemme Botanique Detox & Restore Shampoo.
