DIY flaxseed gel for defined curls

Managing curly hair requires umpteen tools and products. Girls with curls will know that the struggle to tame curly locks is REAL. Apart from preventing your curls from turning into a frizzy mess, you’re also looking at giving them definition without flaking. So, what do you do? We suggest you try this flaxseed-infused DIY gel!

This superfood is not only rich in proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre but also considered a super healthy ingredient used in oatmeal, smoothie bowls and baked items. And apart from its health benefits, flaxseed has a number of hair benefits too. It can be used in moisturisers, oils and gels. Today, we’re going to tell you how to prepare a flaxseed gel at home to moisturise and add more definition to your curly tresses. Also, flaxseed gel helps promote hair growth, keeps scalp healthy and reverses grey hair. Win-win!

Things you need:

  • Flaxseeds
  • Water
  • Glass bottle
  • Clean stocking
  • Measuring cup

Here’s a step-by-step guide to prepare the DIY flaxseed gel at home:

Step 1: Take one-fourth cup flaxseed in a pan and pour two and a half cups of water into it.

Step 2: Boil it on medium heat for about five to seven minutes. Make sure you keep stirring so that the flaxseeds don’t stick to the bottom of the vessel. The texture needs to be gel-like, neither too thick nor too runny.

Step 3: Now, turn off the stove and leave the gel to cool for at least an hour. While the gel is cooling, its texture will thicken.

Step 4: Take a clean knee-high stocking, place it in a glass measuring cup and pour the gel into the stocking.

Step 5: Here’s the trickiest part. You need to squeeze the gel out of the stocking and into the glass cup. Since the gel will have a thicker consistency, straining it may take a few tries.

Step 6: You can also add a few drops of essential oil or aloe vera gel to the mixture. To treat an itchy scalp, add a few drops of tea tree oil, whereas, for hair growth, use lavender oil.

Step 7: Lastly, pour the mixture into a glass bottle and store it in the refrigerator. Apply the gel for moisturising or styling purposes.

But why take so much effort when you could easily use the TIGI Bed Head Manipulator StylingThis amazing product not only gives you a lot of texture and style, but will prevent your curly hair from looking frizzy and unmanageagle. How cool is that?!
