Best Non-drying Natural Ingredients For Winter-struck Hair
Written by Sanya HamdaniJan 06, 2020
There’s no shortage of nourishing hair care products and treatments that promise to make your dry and dull hair shiny and happy. But with the cold winter months approaching, your hair demands more than just nourishment. Harsh weather conditions can wreak havoc on your hair and scalp and lead to breakage and damage.
Adding a few naturally nourishing ingredients in your hair care routine can offer relief to your winter-struck hair. What better place to find these ingredients than your kitchen? We will tell you exactly what to use and how, while battling dry hair this winter.
Honey is one of the most hydrating ingredients in your pantry. Other than adding sweetness to your food and offering a wide range of health benefits to your body, your skin and hair love this humectant as much as your taste buds do! Diluting some pure honey in warm water and pouring it on your head can offer relief from dandruff, flakiness and itchy scalp which are common during winter.
Olive oil
Your hair would love some olive oil nourishment because its composition is very similar to the natural oils of the hair and scalp. Dry and damaged hair is basically the result of the lack of natural oils in your scalp. Olive oil replenishes the oils and helps prevent dryness. Applying warm olive oil to your scalp and hair before shampoo will deep condition your hair and protect it from the effects of winter.
Avocado
Brimming with healthy nutrients and proteins, avocado is beneficial for your hair as much as it is for your health. Adding this natural ingredient in your hair care routine will smooth out frizzy and unruly hair. Mash up half an avocado and massage it on to clean damp hair. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
Raw egg
Most people may find this suggestion icky because of the smell and slimy texture of raw eggs. But eggs are full of proteins and act as a natural moisturiser in repairing and strengthening dry, damaged hair. Whisk one egg and apply to your hair and scalp. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water.
Aloe vera
Last but not least, the good old aloe vera to the rescue! Other than offering relief from almost every skin problem, aloe vera also helps retain moisture in the hair. Use aloe vera gel as a conditioning treatment to protect your hair and prevent dryness.
