The health of your skin is a reflection of your overall health. If your skin appears dull and yellow-tinged, it’s a clear indication of sallow skin. Lifestyle, environmental and even medical factors are responsible for making your skin look dull and lifeless.
While sallow skin is typically more visible on the face, it can appear on any other part of the body. Lately, if you have noticed that your skin lacks brightness, appears pale and dull, it’s possible that you’re experiencing sallow skin. Ahead, the main causes of sallow skin and how to remedy it.
One of the biggest reasons why skin appears sallow and dry is because it’s dehydrated. Lack of fluids in the body can impair the healthy functioning of the internal organs as well as the skin. A well-hydrated body exhibits clear and glowing skin. Apart from drinking at least 8-9 glasses of water each day, limit your caffeine and alcohol intake as these drinks cause severe dehydration and make the skin dry.
2. Lack of sleep
If your sleep schedule has gone for a toss lately then it could be a reason behind sallow skin. Good sleeping habit means getting 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night on a regular basis. When the body is resting at night, it releases hormones that encourage the growth of new skin cells. Any disruption in this process slows down collagen production and wound healing, leading to sallow skin.
3. Smoking
Smoking impairs blood flow by constricting the blood vessels in the skin. Without proper oxygen and blood circulation, the essential nutrients don’t reach the skin and result in a complexion that looks dull, tired and sallow.
4. Anaemia
Anaemia is a condition that develops due to iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. It prevents the red blood cells from supplying oxygen to the body’s tissues, this results in a yellow or pale complexion.
5. Vitamin deficiency
Vitamin A, C and E are responsible for developing collagen, increasing blood flow and giving it a healthy appearance. Therefore, a lack of these vitamins can cause sallow skin. Consume foods rich in vitamins to get a healthy and glowing complexion.
