Anita Dongre’s Lakmé Fashion Week collection, ‘Songs of Summer’ represents the magical summer wedding with a palette of pistachios, baby blues, whites, pale pinks and yellows. We loved the delicate embroidery, sheer dupattas and floral motif detailing we saw on most of the bridal outfits. From lehengas to anarkalis to saris, the collection had something for every bride. The show also had R|Elan™ from the house of Reliance Industries Limited presenting a range of eco-friendly fabrics as part of the collection.
A basic, restricted runway at the Lakmé Fashion Week would’ve done little justice to the theme of the collection–summer weddings. It had to be extravagant, almost like a garden wedding, and so, the terrace garden at the ITC Grand Central was transformed into an elaborate wedding setup. Models walked on the tunes of soothing live music, always a plus. To top it all, diffused, warm lighting set the perfect tone for the evening!
What we loved…
Although her entire Lakmé Fashion Week couture line was to die for, some pieces caught our eye and we couldn’t stop crushing on them. The inward pallu drape on this stunning pale pink printed saree paired with a halter blouse gave us us some serious draping goals. We also loved the usage of long capes over the lehenga-choli combination that added an edge to the outfits. The men’s outfits too consisted of an array of muted Chinese and stand collared sherwanis. The outfits were coupled with comfortable juttis (the wedding must-haves) and no heels.
The star-studded guestlist
B-town and Lakmé Fashion Week go hand in so we weren’t surprised at the number of celebrities who came to support one of India’s A-List designers at her show. From Shamita Shetty and Sagarika Ghatge to Diana Penty and many more, the stars just added to the grandeur of the show.
If only we were aware of the showstoppers at Lakmé Fashion Week, we would’ve prepared ourselves to be completely taken in by the dreamy couple of Bollywood–Shahid Kapoor and Mira Kapoor. While he wore a layered white sherwani, she looked nothing less than a princess in her white lehenga with baby blue and pink embroidery. We loved her delicate floral hairdo and nude makeup (one of the highlights of Lakmé Fashion Week) that she pulled off gorgeously.
All in all, Anita Dongre’s show exceeded our expectations–the grandeur, the vibe and even the showstoppers. The couture line was perfect for the minimalist bride and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to end Day 1 of the Lakmé Fashion Week.
