The stage was set. The anticipatory whispers were bustling as loud as the drumroll. The minutes before the Grand Finale at Lakmé Fashion Week were filled with excitement and as the music took over, we couldn’t wait to see Rajesh Pratap Singh’s ode to a week that was nothing short of grandeur, drama and a tribute to fashion. As we took our seats at the Finale, we thought it only right to bring to you a memoir of sorts, of what made that Grand Finale, a really spectacular one for us.

The set
As we jostled to reach for the show, the sheer enormity of the stage and set had us spell bound. Trust a genius like Rajesh Pratap Singh to not make any compromises when it comes to building up an enchanting aura. With reflective mirrors lined with candles across the runway, we were both, bedazzled and glued to the stage as models sashayed down the ramp in their finest. The stage was rightly inspired by ‘Illusions.’

Even the path leading up to the main stage was decorated with beautiful candles, creating a mystical and enchanting mood, just apt for the last show of the week.

The collection
If there was ever a way to showcase the season’s favourite trends and spin them with a futuristic twist, Rajesh’s show was just that. The line was sexy, understated, and yet bold and daring in parts. When did plastic bionic arms and doubly oversized sunnies look good on the ramp? They did at Rajesh’s show. From high sheen metallic skirts paired with powder pink sheer jackets to a series of elegant LBDs with silver rose motifs, we devoured each design as though it was a unique discovery from the lab.

Apart from this, our favourites were the adorable combination of a pink skater dress with a mango yellow jacket, the metallic spin on sports lux wear and the tiny boleros. Basically - everything!

The showstopper
As brand ambassador for Lakmé, while we had called dibs on the predictability of the showstopper, we knew that she is one that we never tire of. Setting the ramp on fire and élan, Kareena Kapoor looked every bit like a royal princess with a dark touch. Wearing the couturier’s deep V-neck, low back gown with a scintillating slit, she offered us a spectacle that concluded the week with much aplomb.
