Big On Buns – The Most Popular Hair Trend At Lfw This Year

Written by Khubi Amin AhmedMar 31, 2015
Fresh out of the Lakmé Fashion Week, we’re still buzzing with the fashion trends that flooded the runway this season. Amongst the many that we saw, the one that stayed with us is the hair bun. How could something so quotidian come back as a fashion statement? This year, one too many designers did a classic and elegant take on the bun to complement their ramp looks. Here are some of our favourites…

Low and braided buns for the Kapoor sisters

As we sit to enlist our favourite hair bun looks from this year’s Lakmé Fashion Week we can’t go without mentioning the Kapoor sisters, both of whom rocked their LFW appearances with their hair styled in exotic buns. While Kareena Kapoor graced Anamika Khanna’s LFW Grand Finale show in a classic coiled bun, sister Karisma chose to walk the ramp for Neha Agarwal in a neatly braided tuck-up bun.

No brush buns at Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani's "Past Modern" collection was a burst of color and digital prints. While Tarun incorporated artistic sensibilities with a touch of contemporary onto his collection, the dhoti and lungi saris, kedeo tops and kalidaar kurtas all led the collection – but adding to the funk statement were the fun no-brush buns with scarves worn as turbans and head bands.

Chestnut buns at Asmita Marwa

Our favourite of the lot is got to be hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar’s side bun. Adhuna was gorgeous in a long fuchsia pink dress, a side bun finished with a cheerful brown fedora that aced her uber cool party look as she walked for Asmita Marwa. And because Asmita Marwa’s collection was an ode to the Big Apple or New York and its street art, most of her models sported many chestnut and no-brush buns.

Braided buns at Krishna Mehta and Vaishali

Krishna Mehta’s collection was a color burst with intrinsic thread work over printed fabrics. While we saw a lot of flares, drapes and, it was the skirts, flowy printed jackets, bandhgalas and jackets that aced the bohemian look. Again this otherwise flowy and flairy collection was balanced with braided buns. Just like Vaishali's 'Behrupia' which aced the summer look with their urban cuts, hand woven Indian textiles but most of all, their summer appropriate braided buns.

Coiled buns at Gauri Khan

As Gauri Khan showcased Satya Paul’s summer-resort collection – ‘A Tropical Wonder’ – she was true to its name. The collection embodied both Gauri’s diva aura and Paul’s signature style of vibrant prints in flowing silhouettes- the summer look was aced with neatly done coiled buns, apt for a tropical holiday look.
