Lrt Diaries—Are Cut-Outs The New Fad?

Written by Fleur Xavier and Nethra RaghuramanOct 15, 2014
We know how much Bollywood stars and celebs influence style and fashion in India. With an arsenal of designers, stylists, pundits to call on, they always have their finger on the pulse of what’s hot and what’s in vogue. More so, they are also naturally inclined to turn what’s fashionable on them into style trends. Two Bollywood heroines known for their style and fashion sense are Kalki Koechlin and Katrina Kaif. They just get it – period! And it doesn’t hurt that they both have great bodies to go with just about anything.

Recently Katrina Kaif was seen in a black Cushnie et Ochs dress at the screening of her latest film Bang Bang! and she paired the dress with black (with gold) Steve Madden pumps. The dress had slits in the arms and the torso, which added an edge to what could otherwise have been just a little black dress.

At the launch of the trailer of her film ‘Happy Ending,’ Kalki Koechlin was seen in a deep blue short dress and black pumps. Her dress had a cut-out at the midriff and this added oomph to a simple short dress.

So we ask – are cut-outs the new fad? Well, it sure seems to be.

Slits and cut-outs can add edge and oomph to any outfit. It can also be quite an easy DIY fashion statement. You can slit an old pair of jeans and fray it – Thus, changing it from a regular pair to a cool one. Similarly, t-shirts can be slit across the arms, back or the midriff to get an edge.

Let’s get creative with your clothes! Need we add that this is best experimented on a couple of old outfits or jeans first! ;) So go on, experiment away and bring out the inner stylista in you.

Stay Pretty!
