Art critique and writer, G. K. Chesterton once said- “White is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black. God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white.” Sigh! The elegance and simplicity of white is beyond that of the entire VIBGYOR put together. Which is probably why, we saw a myriad of whites dominate this year’s LFW. Here’s picking 4 shows that we thought justified the blessed white!
An ode to white
With his collection “Song of the little road" SS Surya showcased an all-white, red carpet collection. Embellished with motifs, he presented classic flared and fish cut gowns in plain whites. These plain white ultra-sexy short dresses seemed perfect to beat the summer heat.
Soumitra’s white bridal collection was a gorgeous assortment of white bandhgala sherwanis and kurtis, churidar pants and sarees. Using wHite to its utmost glory, Soumitra presented an incredibly ethnic yet stylish summer collection for the brides of the season.
Vivacious in white
Placid and fuss-free fashion, Nishka Lulla’s collection was white dominated and thus made for ideal summer wear. Emphasising on separates and feminine edginess, Nishka’s very first opening presentation was a white sheath with a white organza coat followed by lacy skirt /top combos, pants, blouses, flowing pleated trousers et al.
Shon Randhawa presented her collection ‘A Retro Bar’ for her label ‘Patine’ which included shirt dresses, kaftans, bell bottoms, balloon sleeves and drapes in hues like beige, off-white, espresso brown. A mélange of translucent tulles, lace and silk, she combines with wool and crisp cotton, to form a unique tapestry of texture.
