Wearing face masks every time you step out is the new normal; it is one of the best ways to protect yourself from the ongoing pandemic. But the mask comes with its own set of problems; apart from making you sweat profusely, it builds a lot of pressure on your ears causing them to hurt and, in some cases, even develop rashes.

Recently, Florida-based hairstylist Olivia Smalley, known on Instagram as @omgartistry, shared a genius hair clip hack that only solves this problem but does so stylishly. Take a look.

Barrettes and hair clips have been all the rage since 2019 and don’t seem to be going anywhere soon. Use them to your advantage by following the steps below:

Step 01: Style your hair as you desire — it could be a bun, ponytail or front twisted.

Step 02: Clip the ear elastic onto your hairstyle instead of securing it behind the ear.

After Olivia Smalley popularised this trend, a lot of women on Instagram have come up with creative hairstyles and ways to prevent the face mask elastic from hurting your ears. Here’s another one you can take inspiration from.

Step 01: Place the bandana on the top of your head.

Step 02: Before tying it at the back of your head, take the ends through the face mask elastic.

Step 03: This will keep the friction away and give you a stylish hairstyle in the process.

Alternatively, you can use a bandana or scarf as a mask; this will work as protective gear and also give you a break from the regular masks that hurt your ears.
