It seems like the traditional gajra bun is the most-coveted festive hairstyle among Bollywood beauties RN. From Karisma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit to millennial belles like Kriti Sanon and Taapsee Pannu, we’ve spotted celebrities donning this gorgeous updo set in the pretty white flower garland all this month. Since the floral hair accessories of the ancient times have made a huge comeback this season, we can’t help but steal this fragrant bun to add to our festive look-book.
If you share our sentiments too and want to rock the gajra bun with your Indian outfit this Diwali, you are in luck! We have got you a step-by-step tutorial to get the good old gajra bun, just in time for the festive season. All you need is some U-pins (from your mom’s drawer, a flower garland and some basic hairstyling skills). Work this bun in 6 easy steps and don’t forget to post a selfie on your social media with the caption ‘Send Rishtas’.
- 5-6 U-pins
- 1 hair tie
- Bun doughnut
- 1 gajra
- 2-3 bobby pins
Step 1: Start with washed and completely dry hair. Apply some hair mousse and blow-dry your hair for volume and bounce.
Step 2: Brush your hair and create a centre parting. Make a mid-raised ponytail at the back and secure it with the hair tie.
Step 3: Next wrap the ponytail around the hair tie in a bun and secure it with some bobby pins.
Step 4: Cover the bun with the bun doughnut and insert U-pins to secure it nicely.
Step 5: Take the gajra and wrap it around your bun. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 6: Spritz hairspray to hold the hairdo in place and tame any flyaways for a sleek look.
