From religiously following a skincare routine to trying on every skincare product out there, you take your skincare game quite seriously.
However, skincare is not just restricted to the use of beauty products. The way you treat and take care of your skin on a daily basis also plays an important role in maintaining the health of your skin. Below, we’ve listed some common skincare mistakes that most women end up making. Are you guilty, too? Read on to find out.
- Overdoing it
- Layering your products wrong
- Not washing your face in the morning
- Not maintaining beauty hygiene
As with all good things, too much of anything is actually harmful. Therefore, going overboard with your skincare routine is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Remember, do not over exfoliate or use too many products with extremely potent ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs or retinol. It will do more harm than good for your skin.
Layering your products wrong
Applying your products in the wrong order majorly reduces the efficacy of the products and makes them almost useless. Always start with applying the most lightweight products and end it with applying the thicker formulas.
Not washing your face in the morning
Even if you’re running extremely late in the morning, never skip cleansing your face. Oil, sweat and dirt can all build up and settle on your skin while you’re sleeping. If you don’t wash your face first thing in the morning, then then this debris can mix with your makeup and clog your pores, resulting in breakouts.
Not maintaining beauty hygiene
It’s crazy how much bacteria your beauty products can harbour. Not just your makeup brushes, but your pillowcase or hand towel could be transferring bacteria to your skin too – gross, but true! Therefore, make it a habit to wash your makeup brushes and change your pillowcases regularly. Let’s not forget that our phones are pretty dirty too; clean them with rubbing alcohol at least once a week.
