Beauty in Bollywood has had its own journey. From bouffant hair with shiny red lips to the exaggerated winged eyeliner, it used to be all about being big and bold. Cut to a few years later, it has now become all about monochrome and minimalist makeup looks.

However history repeats itself and from time to time we come across some amazing yesteryear looks that can be copied even today. Although these makeup looks may look dated and hard to recreate as is, they had a major fan following back in the day. Below, we have listed five of Bollywood’s iconic makeup styles from the yesteryears, and how they have changed over the years.

Over-lined lips

If there is one thing that has evolved over the years and become more subtle and natural looking, then it has to be the way we apply lip liners. Today, we pay special attention to ensure that our lip liner stays as close to our natural lip line as possible. But a lot of yesteryear Bollywood actresses went a little overboard with lining their lips.

Exaggerated eyeliner

From Sharmila Tagore and Hema Malini to Babita and Asha Parekh, most leading actresses from the 60s to the late 80s wore super thick, exaggerated eyeliners that ended up covering most of their eye lids. Although this style of applying eyeliner may be a little too OTT to wear today, we need to give it to these women for showing us how a perfectly created cat eye is a sure shot way to look glamourous!

Extra-long lashes

Perfectly curled, thick and long lashes coated in oodles of mascara are the perfect finishing touch for any eye makeup look. Back in the day, our Bollywood actresses took this makeup trick a little too seriously and sported super long and exaggerated lashes that would give any Kardashian a run for her money.

Too much blush

Sure, a blush can instantly make you look fresh as a daisy, and your makeup is barely complete without that subtle hint of colour on the cheeks. But our yesteryear divas didn't hold back when it came to using this product. From Jaya Prada to Juhi Chawla, all the actresses loved a bit (and by that we mean a lot) of colour on their cheeks!

Super thin, dark eyebrows

How we do our eyebrows has probably undergone the most amount of transformation. Back then the actresses loved sporting ultra-thin, perfectly curved, dark eyebrows, while today, these are just the kind of eyebrows that everyone wants to vehemently avoid. It is all about natural, brushed out brows these days!
