For the makeup minimalist that I am, the barely-there makeup trend came as a ray of sunshine. That natural, dewy base, stained lips and softly defined eyes make for the perfect makeup look on days when I don’t feel like wearing a ton of makeup and would rather go bare-faced. But considering how simple the no makeup makeup look seems, it can actually be quite tricky to pull off.

Did I just throw you off? Fret not; I’m here to help you out . Here’s a low-down on the makeup dos and don’ts you need to remember while trying out the no-makeup makeup look so you nail it every single time.

Do: Perfect that base

Do: Perfect that base

Hide acne marks, dark circles and blemishes, and go for a dewy finish. Apply a liquid foundation and concealer using a beauty blender to get that flawless base and natural glow sans any highlighter! l

Don’t: Skip the eye makeup

Don’t: Skip the eye makeup

You may think that the no-makeup makeup look means no eye makeup, but that’s not true. Tight line your eyes to give them subtle definition and make them look bigger and brighter. Also, define your brows to frame your face. Finish with curling your lashes and amp up the volume with oodles of mascara.

Do: Wear a natural flush

Do: Wear a natural flush

The trick to get your no-makeup makeup look right is enhancing your natural features. Pick a matte blush that suits your skin tone and buff it on your cheekbones as well as the bridge of your nose to fake the most natural flush. This adds a soft pop of colour to your look and makes you look fresh and gorgeous.

Don’t: Go heavy on colours

Don’t: Go heavy on colours

Since you want to keep your makeup game as natural and minimal as possible, steer clear of using too many colours in your makeup. While picking colours for eye makeup, blush and lips, remember to work with the most natural colours like pinks and nudes and keep it subtle with the soft colours.

Do: Go for a nude lip colour

Do: Go for a nude lip colour

Pick a glossy or matte lipstick of your choice and pucker up. You can go for a soft powder pink, light brown, peach or nude lip colour to dress your lips. Line your lips and fill in with lipstick or gloss of the same colour to get the ‘my-lips-but-better’ look.
