- How to clean makeup brushes?
Did you know? When you’re using a makeup brush, it is collecting everything that is on your face—oil, dust, dead skin cells and anything else that is clinging onto your skin. And using a dirty brush all over your face is nothing but a recipe of disaster (or rather, acne). It is, therefore, ideal to wash your brushes on a daily basis.
Better colour payoff
Dirty makeup brushes become ineffective in helping you achieve the desired look. Even your highly pigmented eyeshadows and blushes may fail you due to unkempt makeup brushes. If you want better colour application with every swipe, it’s best to keep your brushes in great condition.
Maintain the softness of your brushes
When your makeup brushes get caked with product and debris from your face, they tend to become abrasive and dry, if not washed regularly. Dirty brushes, in turn, can lead to skin irritation. Therefore, washing your makeup brushes regularly not only keeps them soft but also prevents your skin from damage.
Dirty makeup brushes are a breeding ground for bacteria. Not only is this harmful to your face but also to your makeup products. When you’re continuously using brushes without cleaning them, they are transferring bacteria to your products, thereby tainting them. Makeup products that could have lasted you a year will be difficult to use after a few months.
Makeup brushes are an investment. Therefore, it’s only ideal to take care of them and make the most of the money you spent. Clean them at least once a month. This way, they’ll remain in good condition without getting bent or damaged, thereby lasting for a longer time.
How to clean makeup brushes?
All you need is a brush scrubber and a cleaning soap designed specifically for brushes and makeup sponges. To start with, work the brushes into the soap and move the bristles gently in different directions so that the soap permeates each bristle from all sides completely. Next, run the brushes under lukewarm water. Push the soap and water out of the brush very gently using your fingers. Ensure that your brushes are free of all the soap and makeup. Then, gently press the bristles of the brush together until all the excess water has come out. If you notice that some of the makeup is still resting on the brush, repeat the above process.
Your skin will thank you for caring for your makeup tools. So, stop procrastinating and get on with it RN!
