Applying makeup on ageing skin can be a bit tricky. Applying too little won’t cover those annoying signs of ageing and applying too much will form an unnatural layer giving it a cakey finish. But does this mean you need to give up on your love for makeup as you age? Absolutely not!

All you need to do is keep in mind some simple tips and tricks while applying makeup on mature skin and you’re good to go. These makeup tricks will conceal those fine lines and wrinkles like a pro and give your  face a super smooth and even finish.

Always start with a moisturiser

Always start with a moisturiser

As you age, your skin tends to become dry and sallow, and this is why it is really important to apply an intensive and plumping moisturiser before wearing makeup to give your skin a smooth and conditioned appearance. The best thing would be to use a moisturiser with ingredients such as argan oil or hyaluronic acid to plump the skin.

Move on to a silicone based primer

A primer should form an important part of your makeup routine, especially if you have mature skin. A primer helps to fill in those gaps in your skin, creates a smooth base for your foundation to go on and prevents your makeup from settling in those fine lines and wrinkles.

Use a lightweight foundation

Use a lightweight foundation

A full coverage and heavy foundation looks extremely unflattering on mature skin as it ends up settling into those fine and wrinkles. Therefore it best to use a water-based foundation, tinted moisturiser or a CC cream as these not only provide enough coverage but give your skin a super healthy appearance.

Invest a good quality concealer

As you age, you need to become friends with your concealer, because a they do a much better job than a foundation at concealing those lines and wrinkles. After you’re done applying your foundation, take a tiny amount of concealer and apply it just in the areas in that need extra coverage. Remember to use a makeup sponge or your fingers to blend the product in. Also, pat the product into your skin for a seamless coverage.

Avoid using face powders

Avoid using face powders

While powders do a wonderful job at setting your makeup in place and giving you that super glam matte appearance, they also magnify those fine lines and wrinkles that you are trying so hard to conceal. If you absolutely must use powder, we suggest using one sparingly. Dust a little just on your nose and chin and you are good to go.
