Whether you’re looking for a subtle daytime look or a bold evening glam — you can never go wrong with coloured eyeliner. They are fun, bold and anything but boring. Agree?

While playing with colours is fun, it can end up looking quite comical if not done right. But, to save you the embarrassment, we’ve put together a list of dos and don’ts to keep in mind while wearing coloured eyeliner. Check ‘em out.

- Choose the colour wisely

It’s okay to get experimental, but don’t you want to pick an eyeliner colour that will complement the colour of your eyes and make them look prettier? We know you do. If you with dark brown or black eyes, you can pick from a wide range of colours such as pink, lavender, violet, aqua and golden shades. Those with hazel or light brown eyes can pick emerald green or bronzy hues to make their eyes pop.

- Make it the focus

When you’re wearing a coloured eyeliner, allow your eyes to be the centre of attention. Avoid wearing heavy makeup or a bold lip colour that will take the focus away from your eyes. The key is to let your eyes do the talking.

- Start with a dark shade

If you’re just starting to use coloured eyeliner, we would suggest you start with a dark shade. Start with the Lakmé Eyeconic Kajal classic brown or regal green shade — they are perfect for beginners.

- Go overboard

You may have spotted models donning bold and dramatic eye looks using coloured eyeliners. We know you can pull it off too, but it’s best you begin with something subtle and minimal. Especially when you’re working with bright colours like neon green, orange and pink.

- Treat it like your regular eyeliner

Black and other neutral eyeliner shades enhance the beauty of your overall makeup look. Coloured eyeliner, on the other hand, is used to make statements. So avoid applying eyeshadow, and if you do, stick to neutral shades.
