Easy tips that will help you nail that intense, textured smokey eye

Have you always struggled with smokey eye? You can do a winged liner in your sleep, but always falter when it comes to a smokey eye? That perfect smokey eye, which looks part Goth and part sophisticated, but effortless always evades you? For all those who dread creating a smokey eye, here are a few tips that will get you that textured, a little rough-around-the-edges intense smoke show.

Eye shadow base in a dark colour

Finish with oodles of mascara

This will add intensity to the eye shadow you will apply next, and also act as primer, holding the eyeshadow in place. Apply it over the entire upper eye lid.

Apply eyeshadow next

Whatever your choice, brown, black or even a copper shade, always choose a matte eyeshadow and apply it along your upper and lower lash lines, rounding them at the outer corner.

Use a liquid liner next

Using a liquid liner to add texture to the look and increase intensity. Line your upper and lower lash line with the liner.

Just to be sure, add an eye pencil

Use a creamy eye pencil to trace the eye shape. This is just to add intensity and texture. You can use a small fluffy brush to blend out the edges and make the gradient more gradual.

The look is not complete without a few coats of mascara! So gently wiggle the mascara wand as you coat the lashes from root to tip to get maximum coverage.
