Oh, the power of a mere flick of eyeliner on your lids. Recently, MUA Katie Jane Hughes posted a carousel of images on Instagram sporting the highly coveted cat-eye look made popular by Hollywood actress Sophia Loren. This placement of black and white on the eyes, complemented by mascara-coated lashes, creates an illusion of bigger, longer eyes. And while the look might seem daunting to recreate, there’s a hack that can help you achieve it with ease. You’ll need a white or cream-coloured eyeliner pencil, black liquid eyeliner, and mascara before you start. Here’s a step-by-step guide we put together for you.

Step 1: This cat-eyed look isn’t very different from the traditional flicked eyeline, except that the latter follows the natural shape of the eye, and joins at the upper corners, and the former elongates the shape of the eye to create an illusion of a bigger, longer, and lifted eye. Start off by drawing a line with a white or nude eye pencil from the inner-corner of your waterline toward the outside. Extend the line into a small wing.
Step 2: Now, with a black eyeliner, draw a thin line along the inner-corner of your upper lash line, and extend it to the outer-corner of the eye. Finish off with a soft wing.
Step 3: Come back to the lower lash line with a black eyeliner, and do the same. In this way, you’re framing the white/nude coloured line with the black liner. Now, Join the upper lash-line with the wing to create an empty wing.
Step 4: Accentuate your lashes with multiple coats of mascara. The Lakmé Eyeconic Curling Mascara is perfect for intense looks like these.
Step 5: Conclude the look by lining your lips with a dark brown lip liner like the Lakmé Absolute 3D Lip Definer - Sepia. Fill in the rest of your lips with a nude lipstick like the Lakmé Absolute Matte Ultimate Lip Color With Argan Oil - Brunch Nude to truly capture the essence of the Sophia-inspired look.
