From the original way of contouring to baking to most recently strobing, contouring has evolved over the last few years and how! Needless to say, it can be quite difficult, if not absolutely impossible, to keep track of them all. It is totally understandable if you do not have the time, commitment or patience to devote to an elaborate contouring routine on a regular basis, because TBH, just thinking about the whole process makes us tired.
Instead, we are going to help you simplify the routine for days when you hit the snooze button one too many times and really need to finish applying your makeup quickly. This makeup tip involves using the original face-shaper: blush.
Did you know that your trusted little blush, when applied correctly, does the job of a bronzer to help you achieve sculpted model-esque cheekbones? Yes, you read that right! When used the right way, blush can dramatically enhance the shape and structure of your face, just like contouring and highlighting. Plus, a healthy pop of pink on the cheeks looks ten times more believably “sun-kissed” than the gold tones of bronzer.
Since the magic is in the application of the blush, here’s the ultimate guide to flatter your face shape with blush—and only blush!

How’s it done?
Just like normal contouring, the secret to giving your face a chiselled appearance lies in the placement of the blush. Unlike what we have been told since we were children, blush shouldn’t really be applied to the apples of your cheeks. This method, while not being completely wrong, ends up making your face appear rounder.
Hence, a smarter way to contour your face would be to apply your favourite cream, liquid or powder blush along the top of the cheekbones, or in simpler terms, in the exact spot you apply your favourite highlighter. Now, using an angled blush brush or even just your fingers, blend upward towards your temple to buff out the colour. Start with a light application and build until you reach the intensity you want. Quite simple, isn’t it?
How does this help?
If you’re questioning why you should change your tried-and-true blush routine, allow us to explain. Applying blush along the top of the cheekbones draws the colour upward and elongates the face so it appears slimmer, just like contouring your face would.
