4 hacks to make your lipstick mask-proof

Written by Tashika TyagiAug 05, 2021

With face masks becoming the new normal accessory in our lives, we have come to accept the challenges that come with them too. The biggest challenge while wearing face masks for makeup lovers is the agony of seeing their lipsticks smudging and transferring onto the masks. If this bothers you too, you’ve come to the right place.

If you haven’t already guessed from the title, we’re letting you in on four hacks that will mask-proof your lipstick, aka prevent it from smudging under the mask. Check ‘em out.

01. Take off excess lip balm

It’s important to prep your lips with a hydrating lip balm like the Lakmé Lip Love Chapstick before gliding on your slipstick. It moisturises and nourishes your lips all day long, and the SPF 15 in its formula helps protect them against sun damages too. However, in order to prevent your lipstick from slipping and sliding, it’s best to take off the excess before you sweep on your lipstick. To do this, apply lip balm. Keep it on till you do the rest of your makeup. Once it’s time to do your lips, just take a tissue or cotton pad and wipe off the excess lip balm. Easy-peasy.

02. Don’t forget the lip liner

Your lip liners are going to be your BFFs now. Besides adding depth and definition to your lips, a liner also gives your lipstick a smooth canvas to adhere to, keeping it from smudging and transferring. Trace your lips with a pigmented lip liner like the Lakmé Absolute Forever Silk Lip Liner and use the same liner to fill in your lips. This liner gives a smooth, matte finish to your lips and is water, smudge and transfer-proof, basically everything you need to make sure your lipstick stays put under that mask.

03. Switch to matte lipsticks

As much as we love our lip glosses and creamy lipsticks, they are a big no-no when wearing a face mask. It is best to switch to matte formulas as they’re transfer-proof and don’t smudge. We are currently crushing over the Lakmé Absolute Matte Melt Mini Liquid Lip Colour range, and you should totally get your hands on these lipsticks asap. This liquid matte lipstick feels feather-light on your lips and gives an intense colour payoff in one single stroke. Available in 10 beautiful shades, it gives a velvety matte texture and a stunning suede-like finish to your lips.

04. Setting powder to the rescue

This is our go-to technique to make sure our lipstick stays put for longer. Once you have applied the lip colour, place a tissue over your lips. Now, take some translucent setting powder on your brush and gently dab it over the tissue. Dust off the excess and gently remove the tissue. The powder will absorb the excess colour and set the lipstick on your lips, and you know what that means — no smudging or budging.
