News flash: Washing your face before hitting the sheets at night is non-negotiable. And the easiest way to do it is by using a cleansing wipe or cotton pad. However, according to an Instagram creator named Dr Tijion Esho, makeup wipes may not be able to fully remove makeup. He proves this by applying foundation on a tangerine (its surface mimics the pores on our face) and using a makeup wipe to remove it. The result? Plenty of makeup residue, which make wipes failed to get rid of.

Apart from doing only half the job, makeup wipes and cotton pads are not great for the planet too. They get stuck in landfills if flushed and add to carbon emissions. Even if you use biodegradable wipes, they take a long time to degrade.

One of the simplest ways to get rid of makeup and dirt at the end of the day is by using a suitable cleanser. However, double cleansing is essential to thoroughly cleanse the skin and remove every bit of dirt and makeup. Wondering how to double cleanse your skin without cotton pads and wipes? Read below.

Double cleansing involves using two different cleansers, but it’s usually done once a day in the evening. Apply olive oil or a balm based cleanser all over your face, massaging gently until the makeup starts to melt. Then use a damp flannel cloth to wipe away the makeup.

For the second round, use milk or gel-based cleanser such as the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. It contains naturally-foaming Quillaja Saponaria that gently rinses away toxins and debris to leave the skin feeling smooth and clean. Massage in for a minute, then wash off with lukewarm water to get squeaky clean skin.
