5 things to do before wearing a bold, bright lipstick

Applying a bright shade of lipstick can do so much for your look. Even if you decide to just sport a bright shade without any other makeup product on your face, it will still completely transform your look. However, if not done right, it can also look shabby and ruin your look. To ensure you don’t end up with a bright lip disaster, here are 5 things you should do before applying lipstick to make your pout look gorgeous.

01. Exfoliate

There’s nothing worse than dry and flaky lips, and wearing a bright lip colour will only enhance the dryness. Therefore, begin by first exfoliating your lips to get rid of dry and dead skin. You can use a mixture of olive oil and brown sugar for this. Lightly massage your lips for a minute and then wash off.

02. Apply a lip balm

Now that you’ve gotten rid of dry skin, it's time to add the moisture back into your lips. Use petroleum jelly or a lip balm with nourishing ingredients like the Vaseline Lip Therapy Vitamin E - Original to keep your lips moisturised for a long time. If you plan to use a lip plumping product to enhance your pout, do it now.

03. Create a base

When wearing a bright lip colour, it is essential to create a base that will make your lipstick stand out. For this apply a little bit of foundation or concealer on your lips. This will form the perfect base for your lipstick to sit on and stay put for a long time.

04. Line your lips

When wearing a bright lip shade, lining your lips is extremely important. So pick a lip liner that’s closest to the shade of your lipstick. Begin by lining your natural lip line, make sure you don’t go overboard, or it may look unnatural and fake.

05. Dust translucent powder

After applying your bold and bright lip colour, here’s one last thing to do to ensure your lipstick stays on for a long time. Take a soft tissue paper and place it on your lips, then take a brush and apply some translucent powder over the tissue. This mattifies your lipstick and makes it last longer.
