We love Gen Z makeup trends; they are not afraid to pick references and inspiration from the weirdest of places. Take #LipWings for instance. This overdrawn lip trend is inspired by a children’s toy called the Bratz Doll, which was popular in the 90s. The toy featured a very wide-eyed and dazed-looking blonde doll with a full face of makeup on and, you guessed it, winged out lips!

Recreating this look is super easy; all you have to do is mimic a winged liner on your top lip and the result is an envious plump-looking pout. It is kinda adorable too, which is why we figured you might want to try your hand at it as well and put together a tutorial for you.

Here’s a step-by-step guide that’ll help you ace the lip wing makeup trend.

What is the new ‘Lip Wings’ makeup trend — and how to recreate it in 3 simple steps

Step 01: Create the wing - Depending on what you are comfortable with. You can create lip wings with either a pigmented lip pencil like the Lakmé Absolute 3D Lip Definer in a shade that is darker than your natural lip colour. Alternatively, you can use an angled eyeliner brush to overline your lips and draw the wing. Start by drawing a flick at both ends of your lips and extending it towards your top lip to create the wing.

Step 02: Overline the rest of your lip - Once the wing is in place, overline the rest of your lips, following your natural lip shape. You can use a lip brush to lightly buff the lining inwards to make it look more blended and natural.

Step 03: Fill in a colour - Once your lip liner is blended and in place, use a thin lip brush and fill your lips with a creamy or matte pigment. Our current fave for the is the Lakmé Cushion Matte for a soft matte colour fill. Blend the liner with your fingers and you are done!
