Soufflé makeup is gaining momentum - here’s everything you need to know about it

Wearing a full face of makeup, complete with a heavy-duty foundation and multiple other layers during the hot and humid summer months, is an absolute no-no. Thanks to the over-production of oil and sweat, a full-coverage makeup will most likely start to melt off your face in just a couple of hours post-application. Such a mess!

This predicament gave rise to the latest summer makeup trend called soufflé makeup. Like soufflé, the soft and melt-in-your-mouth dessert we all love to bits, this makeup trend aims to use lightweight makeup products to give your face just enough coverage without looking cakey. Here’s everything you need to know about the soufflé makeup trend.

What exactly is souffle makeup?

As the name suggests, souffle makeup, just like the dessert, is a soft, blurry and lightweight makeup look created using lightweight products that sink right into your skin. This trend aims to recreate a skin-like, soft and dewy complexion by using extremely fluffy and lightweight products. For example, instead of using your normal cream or liquid-based base makeup products, souffle makeup incorporates the use of ‘mousse’ textures to achieve that soft, blended finish that is similar to souffle, the dessert. Additionally, since this a summer-appropriate makeup look, it aims to use a minimum number of products to give you enough coverage and help you look well put-together without any fear of cakiness or melting makeup.

Step 01: Start with cleansing your face with some micellar water to eliminate any traces of dirt, excess oil or sweat.

Step 02: Go in with a super lightweight foundation, preferably something that mentions the word mousse or whipped on the packaging. Blend this foundation using a damp makeup sponge to push the product into your skin for a soft, natural finish.

Step 03: Next, swipe on a little bit of cream blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend it in an outward and upward direction for a chiselled look.

Step 04: Dust some highlighter on the high points of your face, such as your cheekbones, forehead, the bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow and chin.

Step 05: Finish your makeup by applying nude lipstick to the centre of your lips and then dab it outwards with your finger for a soft yet defined pout.
