The global pandemic has forced everyone to change their lifestyle and habits. From diet to skincare and even exercise — everything we do now revolves around accommodating the change in routine. Some of the unlikely (but amazing) outcomes of the lockdown include pastel-coloured hair and an overflow of TikTok makeup hacks.
According to a recent study, women are increasingly ditching makeup and going bare-faced more often. Since most of us are working from home, this change in beauty ideas (and so quickly too!) shouldn't come as a surprise.
Usually, a new beauty trend takes longer than a couple of months to be enthusiastically accepted by so many women. In a survey conducted by a leading beauty brand, 60% of the respondents claimed that they have improved their skincare routine multifold which has helped them bond with their skin better. 75% of the respondents said they no longer hesitated to leave their house without makeup and 60% revealed that they would prioritise skincare over makeup from now on.
What has brought on the change, you ask? Well, the self-quarantine period provided lesser (if any) opportunities to wear makeup and more time to indulge in elaborate beauty practices… thus leading to enhanced skincare routines.
The shift from painted faces to a more natural look has been a quick one as well. With brands focusing on a skincare routine to help with self-care and maintaining good germ-free hygiene, this update was expected. With dermatologists offering online consultations and social media’s focus on a wholesome beauty routine as the ‘new normal’... makeup vanities are being pushed out of the limelight faster than expected.
We, personally, are torn with our opinion on this change of perception. On one hand, it does make sense to move on from full coverage because your skincare routine is top-notch… we don’t always use makeup to just conceal flaws. It is a form of creative expression we will truly miss if it’s ever to stop being in-vogue!
Tell us what you think… will you ever be okay with (or be able to ) to say goodbye to your glamourous highlighters or stunning lip tints forever? (We sure can’t!)
