Even though a foundation is an extremely basic makeup product, there are so many girls who still struggle with using it. Even if you manage to find a shade that is your perfect match, blending it in to achieve a nice, skin-like finish can seem almost impossible, especially if you need to apply more than one layer. Agree?

But DW, because you’ve come to the right place. Scroll down for a complete step-by-step guide on how to apply foundation and build it up layer-by-layer for a non-cakey, well-blended finish.

How to build foundation coverage without making your face look cakey

Step 01: After completing your CTM routine, take a mattifying primer such as the Lakme Absolute Blur Perfect Makeup Primer and dab it all over your face and neck, concentrating on those areas that tend to get oily. This will fill in large pores and uneven out skin texture. It will also ensure that the foundation goes on a lot smoother.
Step 02: Next, it’s time to apply foundation. Start by taking a coin-sized amount of the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Perfect Coverage Foundation and dot it all over your face.
Step 03: Dampen your makeup sponge just a little bit and blend the foundation into your skin using a dabbing motion. Ensure that you do not rub the foundation as that will form a patchy layer and end up looking cakey.
Step 04 After applying this layer, go to a well-lit mirror and take a good look at your face to check if you need more coverage. In case you do, take a pea-sized amount of the same foundation and repeat steps three and four to form another thin layer for more coverage minus the cakiness.
And voila! You’ve mastered the art of perfectly applying foundation without any cakiness in four simple steps!
